Brianna Shimer is a ceramicist living in Reading, PA. She is currently a studio artist at the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts as well as Ceramics Studio Manager. Her studio practice focuses on creating functional pottery on the wheel and exploring the materiality of clay. Previously, She worked at the Sonoma Community Center as the Studio Coordinator for Ceramics. Brianna graduated with her MFA in Ceramics at the University of North Texas in 2022 and received her BFA from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in 2016.

Brianna primarily creates wheel-thrown objects with a balance of intuitive processes and an emphasis on materiality through the lens of functional ceramics. The evidence of the hand is an active component of her aesthetic. By creating Handmade pottery that is intended to be used, the work is activated through the interaction of people. Functional ceramics can be a central gathering point for people to exchange laughter, dialogue, and play.
