Southern Crossings Pottery Festival (SXPF), and events like SXPF play a pivotal role in enriching public appreciation of incorporating handmade objects into their lives. Alongside this societal benefit, there is also a distinct personal benefit for the artists. By gathering and sharing a common space, artists create an environment where ideas and inspirations can intersect, paving the way for new avenues of influence. This collaboration not only impacts individual artists but also strengthens the overall vitality of the ceramics community. In this panel discussion, our goal is to explore the dynamics of idea exchange among artists within shared spaces, emphasizing the effects on both personal and community levels.

Thinking With Your Hands
(A Two Day Workshop)

Lindsay Oesterritter will lead workshop participants through an exploration of making a simple object of each student’s choice using a variety of techniques:

Throwing, Hand building (Slab), Pinching/Coiling and Molding/Carving

During the exploration, Lindsay and the students will discuss the concept of "intentionality" - consciously and carefully considering the myriad of choices we confront as makers and how those choices affect the outcome of that simple object.

This is a two-day, hands-on workshop with time devoted to instruction, demonstration, making, 1:1 interaction and discussion. Participants can choose to have pieces fired after the workshop. Beginners are welcome. In fact, a variety of skill levels will enhance the learning experience. While clay and use of studio tools will be provided as part of the fee, feel free to bring your own clay body and tools as you wish.

Workshop Cost: $250
February 24 & 25, 2024  (9am-4pm Saturday & Sunday. Bring your own lunch!)
